On the 5th and 6th May we are hosting two Pop Noire Nights in London.
The first night will be at The Shacklewell Arms where Japan’s noisy ZZZs will be playing live alongside our new signing, A Dead Forest Index, and SAVAGES guitarist Gemma Thompson performing a solo project under the moniker of Bashan. Tickets available HERE.
The second night will be at Birthdays and our owners Jehnny Beth and Johnny Hostile will be performing a live electronic set. We will also unveil our other new signing, Le Vasco, for their first show in London. Additionally, Romy from The xx will be providing us with a DJ set on the night. Free entry.
DANCE LIKE A MOTHERFUCKER.
DON’T LET THE FUCKERS GET YOU DOWN.
One year to the day after their acclaimed debut album, Silence Yourself, SAVAGES return with new music in the shape of 12-inch single ‘Fuckers’ / ‘Dream Baby Dream’.
Recorded at the band’s London’s Forum show on Nov 6 2013 – exactly halfway through the band’s year – the record captures the full sonic intensity of SAVAGES live performance on the progressively wigged-out, 10-minute-plus ‘Fuckers’, as well as their more mesmeric side on a sinuous cover of Suicide’s timeless ‘Dream Baby Dream’.
‘Fuckers’/'Dream Baby Dream’ is available to pre-order now from our Pop Noire Shop and will be released on 5th May/6th May (UK & Europe/North America).
The release will coincide with two SAVAGES-curated Pop Noire nights in east London, the first at Shacklewell Arms on ‘Fuckers’ release day (May 5th) and the second at Birthdays on the anniversary of the ‘Silence Yourself’ album (May 6th).
Here is the line-up so far, with more artists to be confirmed:
5th May – Shacklewell Arms
6th May – Birthdays (free entry)
Johnny Hostile & Jehnny Beth (Live DJ set)
Le Vasco (France)
Romy xx (DJ Set)
Just about a year ago, our dear friends Bo Ningen released a single, ‘Nichijyou’, that features guest vocals from Jehnny Beth of SAVAGES. Johnny Hostile also worked on additional production of the track – a strong Bo Ningen/Pop Noire collaborative effort!
We now have 30 VERY limited edition copies imported from Australia to purchase on our Shop.
Grab one while you can…
“We wanted to make a video that focused on a timeless human physicality and physical expression, a search for understanding through the movement, action and reaction of two characters. We chose the classical landscape of the empty beach. A fight ensues between two men: one older, one younger; a tragic outcome, and death.”
“French director Antoine Carlier – co-founder of Pop Noire records with Jehnny Beth, who previously collaborated with the band on their artwork – filmed the scene with a modern black & white aesthetic on the beaches of Gironde in South-West France. The film is a play on human instincts and desire for survival, echoing the famous beach murder scene in the novel ‘The Stranger’ by Albert Camus.”
“Either a tale from the past or science-fiction, this is an endless story of human struggle. We see the fragmentation between two generations, a subject of predilection for SAVAGES (ref: ‘I Am Here’ manifesto), where the “young, intelligent and radical people” live in servitude to established elders.”
Directed by Antoine Carlier
Produced by Walter Films and SAVAGES
Actors : Leo Pochat and Richard Duval.
We have pressed a fourth edition of SAVAGES‘ debut single ‘Flying To Berlin’/'Husbands’ on 7″ vinyl. The single comes in a very special bundle, which also includes a hand-made screen-printed t-shirt.
The 4th edition of ‘Flying To Berlin’/'Husbands’ on 7″ black vinyl is unlike the three pressings beforehand. This edition has a retrospected black design on the cover and it is very limited edition.
The t-shirt also contains the artwork from the single cover and is in charcoal with white ink design. They were screen-printed by hand in very DIY fashion by Dolphinarium, good friends of Pop Noire, in an East London garage.
Released on Monday 28th October, but available now for pre-order on the Pop Noire Shop.
Our heroine Jehnny Beth has made a few radio shows for us all to listen to. The first show features a theme of obsessions, where she discusses certain tracks that have compelled her and people around her. The second show was made recently whilst Jehnny has been touring America and includes guest appearances from the crew of the tour bus, including Johnny Hostile, Duke Garwood and her fellow SAVAGES.
Both are available to stream from here blog:
We hope there will be many more shows to come, so stay tuned. POP NOIRE CONTROLS THE AIRWAVES! (If that’s ok with you, of course?)
We’re so happy that SAVAGES got nominated for the Mercury Music Prize yesterday! The girls put so much hard work and thought into recording this album independently with Johnny Hostile at the end of last year.
It’s such a great credit to Matador, Pop Noire and, most importantly, SAVAGES themselves to see it get the critical recognition it truly deserves.

The dates are as follows:
5th Concorde 2, Brighton, UK
6th The Forum, London, UK
7th Trinity, Bristol, UK
9th Ritz, Manchester, UK
