A Dead Forest Index
A Dead Forest Index is a sibling-led nomadic pop duo from New Zealand founded by Adam Sherry in 2008, joined by his brother Sam in 2010. Their project cites a wide range of influences, including William Blake, Scott Walker, Swans and Romanian lăutari troupe Taraf de Haidouks.
Adam's androgynous, otherworldly voice, which invokes Antony and the Jonsons, early Marianne Faithful and Nico, is bolstered by multi-instrumentalist Sam’s inventiveness, and the overall effect suggests a steady diet of early 4AD bands like Dead Can Dance or Bauhaus.
The two brothers honed their sound on the road to unveil their first EP ‘Antique’ in 2012, and ‘Cast of Lines’ in 2014 on Pop Noire. A Dead Forest Index look back, but always towards something beautiful.
